Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
Ransom Riggs
Quirk Books

A horrific family tragedy sends Jacob 16 to a remote island off Wales, to the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, where he finds unusual old photographs. The children, one his grandfather, were more than peculiar, perhaps dangerous, quarantined for good reason - and maybe still alive.

My Review: If you have not read this book what are you waiting for. This book was amazing. I could not put it down and I can not wait for the next one. I was blown away by this book. Jacob's grandfather was an eccentric old man who like to tell stories of his youth, but as Jacob grows up he realizes his grandfathers stories can not be true. Levitating girls and invisible boy just don't exist. After a horrifying event Jacob's family thinks he needs help dealing with what has happened and hope a trip to his grandfathers childhood home will help him deal better and stop the nightmares he has been having. Jacob also thinks he will discover the truth behind the stories and the mysterious letter he discovered in his grandfathers possession. Jacob soon learns that fact is stranger than fiction and discovers the truth about himself. This book was fast paced and edge of your seat thriller. The pictures in this book just bring it to life that much more. I can't wait for the next installment in this story. I am also going to have my kids read this and recommending it to a number of people I work with that love a captivating story with twist and turns.

Scarlet’s true identity has been revealed, but her future is uncertain. Her forced marriage to Lord Gisbourne threatens Robin and Scarlet’s love, and as the royal court descends upon Nottingham for the appointment of a new Sheriff, the people of Nottingham hope that Prince John will appoint their beloved Robin Hood. But Prince John has different plans for Nottingham that revolve around a fateful secret from Scarlet’s past even she isn’t yet aware of. Forced to participate at court alongside her ruthless husband, Scarlet must bide her time and act the part of a noblewoman—a worthy sacrifice if it means helping Robin’s cause and a chance at a future with the man she loves. With a fresh line of intrigue and as much passion as ever, the next chapter in Scarlet’s tale will have readers talking once again.

My Review : I would like to thank netgalley for letting me read this book for my honest review.

As soon as I put down book 1 in this trilogy (Scarlet ) . I started the next book. This was a wonderful sequel. With just as much action in the last book it was a roller coaster ride from beginning to end and I am waiting and wanting more. Twist and turns aplenty make this a great read and the third can not come out soon enough. I will be first in line to get this book I need to see what happens next. I want more.

Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the evil Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only Big John and Robin Hood know the truth—the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. It’s getting harder to hide as Gisbourne’s camp seeks to find Scarlet and drive Robin Hood out of Nottinghamshire.

But Scarlet’s instinct for self-preservation is at war with a strong sense of responsibility to the people who took her in when she was on the run, and she finds it’s not so easy to turn her back on her band and townspeople. As Gisbourne draws closer to Scarlet and puts innocent lives at risk, she must decide how much the people of Nottinghamshire mean to her, especially John Little, a flirtatious fellow outlaw, and Robin, whose quick smiles and temper have the rare power to unsettle Scarlet.

My Review:  This was one retelling of Robin Hood I enjoyed immensely. With all the beloved characters we know but with an interesting twist. Told through the eyes of Scarlet. I enjoyed this well known story but in a different perspective. We always see it through Robin Hood's eyes, now we see it as told by one of his Merry "Men". I found this to be a unique and interesting interpretation of this beloved tale . A good read for anyone who likes action-adventure with mystery and just a touch of romance.

Rot & Ruin

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

In the zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic America where Benny Imura lives, every teenager must find a job by the time they turn fifteen or get their rations cut in half. Benny doesn't want to apprentice as a zombie hunter with his boring older brother Tom, but he has no choice. He expects a tedious job whacking zoms for cash, but what he gets is a vocation that will teach him what it means to be human.

My Review:  I really, really enjoyed this book. I held off reading it for a while because of all the zombie books that have been coming out. Like vampires I think zombies were starting to get overdone. So this book sat on my shelf for a while, now I want the whole series. I thought it was great. Benny is your average teen who is unmotivated to work but has too get a job because of rules now set up by society. His lack of enthusiasm for work and not wanting to work hard reminds me of before I worked when all I wanted to do is read. Benny soon realizes he will have to work for his older and despised brother Tom ( the great zombie hunter). The relationship between these two I found very intriguing and realistic. Benny blames Tom for the death of their parents and resents him to no end, but as they get to know each other Benny learns the truth of what happened years ago. This was a touching coming of age story oh yeah and there are zombies too. Action packed page turning and kick ass this is a perfect book for anyone looking fro a great read with heart and zombies. I can't wait to see where the series heads next.

M.J., her partner Gilley, and their client, the wealthy, de-lish Dr. Steven Sable, are at his family's lodge, where his grandfather allegedly jumped to his death from the roof-although Sable says it was foul play. But the patriarch's isn't the only ghost around. The place is lousy with souls, all with something to get off their ghoulish chests. Now M.J. will have to  quell the clamor-and listen for a voice with the answers...

My Review: I found this book quite entertaining. Dealing with ghost, a haunting and murder. This is a quick read and the characters are interesting and well developed. M.J is a strong female character with a talking parrot that is unpredictable and has perfect timing to embarrass M.J to the fullest. Her partner Gilley is afraid of ghost but tries to help in other ways ( using the internet to find dirt on others). Laced with mystery and suspense this is a great read for people who like intriguing stories with paranormal twists.
