Review: Shallow Pond

Sisters uncover an unbelievable family secret

Barbara “Babie” Bunting is constantly mistaken for her sisters, but she’s determined not to end up like her family. She doesn’t plan to stick around Shallow Pond after graduation, and she certainly won’t be ruined by a broken heart. That is, until fellow orphan Zach Faraday walks into the picture, and Babie can’t deny their chemistry.

When her oldest sister, Annie, comes down with a mysterious illness—initially dismissed as “love sickness”—Babie and Zach start investigating what exactly killed the girls’ mother and why their late father became so consumed by grief. What they find changes everything.

My Review :  What can I say about this book. I was drawn in but did not know what to expect. I was shocked by the end. This book started slow but when it pick up it was amazing. I understand Barbara because I was a lot like her in some aspects. I lived in a small town were everyone knew everyone. The plan at a young age was to escape and move on with my life. I did that and I cheered each time "Babie" confirmed her plan to move on. Trying to not let anything hold her back. Then she meets Zach (A walking magazine add) perfect in everyway. I was conflicted as was Barbara.

I also liked the roles her sisters played Annie ( the mother figure) Gracie ( the boy crazy flake ) they added some craziness to the plot with there antics and tragedies but still a great plot with twist and turns I did not see coming or expect. When it ended I loved how all the lose ends were tied up in a neat package and wish life was like that for everyone.

My Review:   Well I did it I finished a Series. I Started this series and I loved it. It started with "Switched" and then Torn. What an ending in Ascend. All my questions were answered and I loved how Wendy's character grew from a young girl to the Queen her people wanted and needed. I also like how she stopped doing what everyone wanted and stood up for what she believed. I can't understand why I had not read these book before. These books were well worth the time and the hype that surrounded them. That is most likely why I did not read them the hype. I never want to be let down because I believed what EVERYONE says. These book were well worth all the hype and I am glad I have read them. My daughter is planning to read them and I can't wait to discuss them with her.

Many months have passed since part angel siblings Jonah, Eliza, and Jeremiah Stone began their angelic training. As part angels, or "quarterlings," the siblings joined other children of nephilim to begin honing their special powers.

In this third installment in the Son of Angels series, Jonah's story comes to resemble a modern-day Job as he's faced with trials that affect his health, strength, relationships, and most-prized possessions. As he and the other quarterlings prepare for mid-term exams, their powers are tested once again in the most fierce battle against Abaddon's forces yet. Will Jonah's faith in Elohim continue to persevere as he fights Abaddon in his hardest battle yet?

Parents today are looking for fiction that makes Christianity and the Bible exciting for their kids. This series is the first Christian answer to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Kane Chronicles, the Secret Series, and other middle-grade series packed with action, adventure, and supernatural fights. But the message is solidly based in Scripture, conveying God is always in control.

My Review:  I have read all the books in this series so far and they blow me away. I wanted a book I felt safe to have my middle grader to read and this series is it. I also like the Christian aspect of this book it explains things well but is not preachy in any way. This series is the best thing to come along in a while that parents can let children of all ages read and enjoy. Another home run in my book for Jerel Law . Hope I get to read more of his wonderful writing.

Review: Sketchy

Sketchy (Bea Catcher Chronicles, #1)
SKETCHY

A popular cheerleader—raped, beaten, and left for dead. An edgy outsider with a gift. Can they team up to catch a killer?

Bea’s life has been a mess ever since she got kicked out of private school and sent to rehab. Now clean, Bea is starting over at Packard High School, in a city shaken from two assaults on young women. The latest victim, Willa Pressman—the one who survived—doesn’t remember a thing. But Bea has a disturbing new “skill”: she can see—and then draw—images from other people’s minds. And when she looks at Willa, Bea is shocked by what she sketches. Bea might be the only one who knows Willa’s secrets—and who can take down the killer before he strikes again.

My Review : This book was so good I did not put it down. I finished this in three hours. I did not know I could read that fast. I must admit this book deals with a lot of heavy subjects. ( Rape, drug use and murder) it also has a strong lead character to show to face the demons. Bea Catcher is a wonderful role model for kids, not the drugs use, but her choosing not to use and fighting the urge everyday give readers a glance into a life they do not want, without having to live through it. Bea shows courage and strength that amazes me. There were time I forgot I was reading a YA book and I loved that. I was so drawn into the story my pulse quickened at just the right moments and I felt the pressures Bea had to face.  This book is great for older YA readers (15 and up ) I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Read-a- thon

BoutOfBooks-880x400-03

So I have been in a reading slump the last month and I thought I would try this to get out of it.

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 13th and runs through Sunday, May 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 7.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team.

Now, I just have to explain to my family why I am checking out for the week, but my husband will be happy to see the pile of books I have going down. I joined this because of three reasons. First you set your own goal ( I am not sure how many I want to read yet). Two I am going to do a 24hour  read-a-thon in Oct. and I want to see how I like it. Third, my tbr pile is slowly attacking me and taking over my home.
