Review : Catching Fire

Catching Fire
By Suzanne Collins
Scholastic Press
Pg. 391

This book is the second in the "Hunger Games" series, and picks up where the other ended. Katniss and Peeta have won the last games and are getting ready to go on the Victory Tour. The Capital is not happy with the stunning way Katniss and Peeta won and feel they have been tricked into letting 2 victors survive. Now our two hero's have a powerful enemy, President Snow. Believing that their winning will cause and is an act of rebellion, President Snow wants nothing more than to get rid of them. The question is how do you make them vanish with the whole world watching.

First I want to say I could not wait to read this book.

Another gripping tale by Suzanne Collins. Like the "Hunger Games" I did not want to put this book down. I began reading later and later into the night. Finding myself drawn deeper into the story because of the vivid characters and heavier plot. The addition of the political intrigue was a bonus, I was afraid going into the book that it would be a rehashing of the first book. I was thrilled to see that it was not that at all. The sophomore slump that some authors experience after following a wildly popular book with follow up was avoided here. I am starting the last book in a few weeks. I am expecting a lot from the finish of the story, but I do believe Suzanne Collins will deliver.

  1. I loved this book series, too. I wasn't too fond of the writing style she used, but I was able to get over that because of the amount of twists and turn she put throughout the story, namely from chapter to chapter that kept me totally alert.
