Review : Dark Child

Dark Child (Omnibus Edition)
Dark Child
Adina West
Momentum

This intriguing urban fantasy follows the story of Kat Chanter, who discovers that the world she knows is controlled by ancient creatures who feed on blood. And she might just be one of them ...

Lately things have been getting weird for pathology technician Kat Chanter. She's been craving raw meat, and having dreams so realistic they're scary. When she accepts a job offer from the prestigious Hema Castus Research Institute, she hopes she'll have the chance to discover what's wrong with her, but instead, her move to New York thrusts her headlong into a treacherous hidden world, where the wrong move could be fatal . . .

Tarot, witchcraft and astrology all take on a frightening resonance in Dark Child's richly imagined alternative reality where vampiric beings live among us, hidden by magic. Dark romance tangles with paranormal fantasy and page-turning suspense in this enthralling tale of 'dark child' Kat Chanter, half-human and half-vampire, who has woken an ancient prophecy and must face a formidable destiny.

My Review: I would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for the chance to read this book.

When I first picked up this book I did not know what to expect. I read about the first 100 pages and I almost DNF. I read on because I wanted to give this a chance. I am glad I did. This book picked up and then ran with a great and wonderful story. This story is supernatural with plenty of action and adventure. I thank goodness I am stubborn if I did not continue reading I would have missed this wonderful debut novel. I also think it was great how we have supernatural being who live on blood but are not vampires, and also have different attributes to their abilities. It was refreshing to see a new take on the supernatural and it also made me keep reading to see what would happen next. Anyone who likes supernatural creatures will love this book.

Seventeen-year-old Ciardis has grown up in poverty, a cleaner in a small vale on the outskirts of the kingdom. But beneath her kingdom’s seemingly idyllic surface lies a hidden secret. Amidst scandalous whispers, Ciardis finds herself chosen to train for the Companion’s Guild. She leaves her home and sets off on a personal journey to become a Court Companion. A position she’d never thought possible for a lowly servant to obtain, she must prove that she has the skills to attract a Patron.

But she must master those skills quickly. If the legends are true, only Ciardis can harness the power to raise a Prince in an Imperial Court sworn to bring him down.

My Review: I really enjoyed this book. The main character was a girl who was not afraid to stand up for herself and her beliefs. No matter who she was talking too. I liked that a lot a character who stood her ground. I loved the world in this unique story. I found this book both engaging and enthralling. I was pulled into the story with just a few pages and did not want to put it down. I recommend this book for anyone who likes fantasy. I am sure they will be as captivated as I was.

When the inoculated are bitten, infection means watching on in silent horror as self-control disappears and the idea of feasting on loved ones becomes increasingly hard to ignore.

Starving and forced to live inside of the abandoned high school, all Savannah wants is the chance to fight back. When a strange boy arrives with a plan to set everything right, she gets her chance. Meeting Cole changes everything. Mere survival will never be enough......

My Review: This was a great book zombies with a twist was. This book focused more on the survivors than killing zombies. I found this a refreshing take on the zombie phenom that seem to be running in YA now. This is another book I like because it is told in two perspectives. I love seeing the story unfold in two peoples eyes not just one. I also love how their story intersect. I think this book is well written and flows wonderfully. I love the characters and the strength they have even through horrible times. I look forward to reading this series to see how it ends.

Review : Wanted!

Wanted !
Caroline B. Cooney
Open Road Young Readers

Alice is at home painting her fingernails and ruminating on her parent’s divorce when she receives an oddly desperate-sounding phone call from her father. He instructs her to drop what she’s doing, take his car, and bring two computer disks to him at their favorite ice cream shack. Alice can’t believe her father wants her to take his precious Corvette, and she’s not supposed to drive because she doesn’t have her license yet. But he never gets the chance to explain—and he doesn’t show up to meet her. While Alice is waiting in the car, she hears on the radio that her father’s been murdered. She is sick with grief, knowing her father will never join her. And then the radio announces that someone has already confessed via email: Alice herself. Now Alice’s life has become a nightmare. Even her mother believes she’s guilty. How can she clear her name while she’s on the run?

My Review:  Wow!!!!! Fast paced and amazing. I loved this story. I actually yelled "RUN" a few time while reading it. Besides getting some strange looks from my husband I was not deterred from looking away from this book. I was afraid I would miss something. This book kept me enthralled till the last page and as I write this my heart is just now slowing and I am shocked at how well it ended.

Review : The Summer I Became A Nerd

The Summer I Became a Nerd

The Summer I Became A Nerd
Leah Rae Miller
Entangled Teen

On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl's body isn’t just unknown, it's anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.

My Review: This book is adorkable. I loved this book. I am buying this book for my daughter to teach her to be true to herself. I loved the characters in this book Maddie was amazing at first I felt sorry for her. To be living a double life is hard and I don't know how she did it for so long, but as the story went on I was happy and proud of Maddie. She shows such courage as the relationships in this book change. I also found out I am a nerd and I don't care who knows this. This book lets the reader explore their inner self and discover who they are. The most important thing is too be themselves no matter what.

Thank you to the publisher for letting me review this book for my honest opinion.

But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. My Review: I want to thank the publisher for a copy of this book for my honest review.

The author makes you feel like you are in the story. Raine is a strong and powerful character that stays with you. You also feel her struggle with real anguish and sorrow. I want the rest of the story now, but I will have too wait till book two. I will be waiting with my nose pressed against the bookstores window. This book has it all. Suspense, action and romance.

But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.

My Review: Violet is back. Still keeping her gift a secret, but this time it proves harder than before. This book was just as good as the first and I am looking forward to reading the third and fourth. I enjoyed the continuing story and the chills this ran up my spine. Jay and Violet make the perfect couple if she could just stop bodies popping up every where their relationship would ne perfect too. Jay plays his role of overprotective boyfriend to a tee, can you blame him. He almost lose Violet in the first book. This was a great sequel and I look forward to continuing the series.
